Beyond the Moon
Obama said he expects the U.S to be able to send astronauts beyond the moon into deep space as soon as 2025. By the mid- 2030s, he said, the U.S. should be ready to send humans to orbit Mars.
“This is the next chapter,” he said. “Step by step we will push the boundaries of where we can go and what we can do.”
The president’s plan would start with a set of manned flights to prove the U.S.’s ability to explore beyond low-Earth orbit, to be followed by a mission to an asteroid and trips to areas such as the Lagrange points, where the gravitational pulls of the sun and Earth are balanced out, allowing spacecraft to maintain a stable position.
The Lagrange points, one of which is almost four times farther than the moon from Earth, may be possible sites for fuel depots that would allow missions to other destinations. NASA would then send humans to orbit Mars and return them to Earth.

Located southwest of Roswell, Blackdom, established by Frank and Ella Louise Boyer, was the first all-black settlement in New Mexico. The heyday for the town was around 1908, when there were about 300 residents. They had set up a post office, a blacksmith, stores, a hotel and the Blackdom Baptist Church, which also served as the schoolhouse. By the 1920s a severe drought led settlers to abandon the town.
